You can showcase your skills in handicrafts with products made of bamboo, wood handloom weaved cloth and other forest based products including ‘honey’, the governor said while addressing the people of the area.
Gen Singh, who frequently visit Poma area dwelled in length on the potential of the area for developing it as a tourist attraction, municipal camping and picnicking on the Poma River with souvenir and handicraft shop. Urging upon the local populace to preserve the flora and fauna, the Governor acknowledged that the departments of Tourism and Environment and Forests are picking up in their spirit in addressing the socio economic upliftment of the people.
While welcoming the guests, G.N. Sinha, MD, Forest Corporation discussed the Project rationale and stated that this project aims at providing financial and technical empowerment to the people of Poma village. The Forest Corporation had got 12 unemployed youths of Poma village trained at CBTC, Guwahati. These trained people had actually given live demonstration to the Governor at the time of the inaugural ceremony. G.N. Sinha also impressed the people for taking up mass plantation of bamboo for feeding the industries.
Ngurang Pinch, MLA, Doimukh also discussed the project details and exhorted the people to work hard for fulfilling the dreams of Governor for making Poma a model village.
On the occasion, State’s First Lady, Mrs. Anupama Singh expressed her interest to help Poma villagers in improvising local handicrafts.
Elaborating the concept of Poma model village, the Governor stated that Bamboo Processing Centre is just the beginning of a series of developmental projects which have been planned for the Poma village. He also expressed his happiness that Arunachal Pradesh Forest Corporation Limited with support from Poma Village Development Society could implement the project in a record time of 1 ½ months.
He congratulated G.N. Sinha, Managing Director, A.P. Forest Corporation, Mrs. Techi Ana, ASM and Chairperson of Poma Village Development Society for the hand work rendered by them. He also appreciated Gumtum Rime, Divisional Manager (M&E), APFCL and Nodal Officer, Amit Singla, Secretary to Governor, Manik Bhardwaj, ADC, Ms Melia Mibang, ADC and Dooda Ete of the Forest Corporation for their hard work done for completing the project.
The programme was attended by T. Milang, Chief Conservator of Forests, Chief Engineer (West), T.H. Tayung, Amit Singla, Secretary to Governor and Planning, Col. (Retd.) J.S. Marwah, Departmental Heads, Gaon Burhas, school children, Poma villagers and others, according to a report from G.N. Sinha, Managing Director, A.P. Forest Corporation Ltd, Itanagar.
A live demonstration on working of different machines and its product was presented by the trained farmers of the village. A photo exhibition on the gradual development of the concept and other development in Poma area due to intervention of Raj Bhavan was also placed on display. To impress the village and to encourage them on the project, Rhino Bamboo Industry, Guwahati, the stakeholder of the centre displayed bamboo products on the occasion.

ITANAGAR, Aug 18: Lok Geet Sanskritik Adhyayan in Hindi authored by Dr Joram Aniya Tana was released on Aug 15 last at Sagalee.
An Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi at Dera Natung Government College she did her Ph.D. in Hindi on the thesis “Nyishi Lok Geet”, a rare feat for an Arunachalee.PWD and UD, Nabam Tuki while releasing Aniya’s Book at Sagalee in a grand function lauded the glorious achievement made by a young Assistant Professor. He further added that her record – making contribution not only deserves wide commendation and appraisal but need to be translated into actions by the younger generation. She has become a role model for younger students and researchers of the state.
Her great contribution will certainly motivate Arunachalee girls to excel with academic sphere of original research and passion for our own rich and unique culture heritage as she chose to do Ph.D. and subsequently to write the book on our own culture and traditions that too in Hindi. Poll process to end before October 24

ITANAGAR, Aug 18: Chief Election Commissioner Navin B Chawla in a veiled indication said that the election process for assembly polls would be completed by October 24 in Arunachal Pradesh.
“There are so many factors we need to look into before announcing the date for polls in the state”, he said adding that the Commission would soon talk with the Union Home Ministry to know the available strength of central paramilitary forces to be deployed for election.
The election commissioner also met with various political parties who pleaded the commission for adequate security arrangement especially in border areas considered to be most sensitive and other vulnerable pockets of the state, he informed.
We will consider the demand and try to provide as much as we can, he said without elaborating on the quantum of forces to be deployed.
There has been a demand for transfer of officers who have been posted in a particular constituency for over three years by political parties, Chawla informed and added that there would be no exception in this regard as the Commission has already issued standing instruction.
On allegation by opposition parties on faulty electoral roll, the CEC disclosed that the commission had already appointed booth level officers (BLO) from central government establishments who could rectify any errors in the electoral rolls till two weeks before polling.
“The commission has requested all political parties to engage booth level agents (BLA) to work in coordination with BLOs to modify any discrepancies in the rolls, he said adding certain procedures need to be followed in this regard.
Observers along with micro observers and video cameras will be put into place in all the 60 constituencies of the state.
The commission reassured all parties that EVMs were damage proof and cannot be tempered with, Chawla further said. The CEC also held meetings with the chief secretary, DIG, all deputy commissioners and SPs to take stock of the preparedness of the ensuing assembly elections.
Election Commissioners Dr S Y Quraishi and V S Sampath along with Deputy Election Commissioner Dr Alok Shukla accompanied the CEC.
The commission team is scheduled to visit Tezu tomorrow and Tawang on August 20 next before leaving for the national capital.

‘Encroachment in the project area need immediate attention’

Itanagar, Aug 18: The public hearing of Gongri HEP being developed by M/s Patel Engineering Limited (PEL) Mumbai is scheduled to be held on 20/08/09. This is a self identified project and accordingly MoA has been signed between M/s PEL and Government of Arunachal Pradesh (GoAP) in May, 2007. It has been learnt that a similar agreement has also been signed with M/s Adishanker Power Private Limited for the development of Khuitam HEP in the same river basin, which is a Central Electricity Authority (CEA) identified project under 50,000 MW initiative scheme of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.
It has also been learnt that Gongri HEP of M/s PEL which is located upstream of Khuitam
HEP of M/s APPL is encroaching in about half of the project area of Khuitam HEP and

On receipt of such information and after some deliberation, GoAP vide its letter dated 12/12/2008 informed M/s PEL and M/s APPL that their respective project area should be decided only after the optimum power potential of both the projects is ascertained.
Further, considering the request of M/s APPL to resolve the issue of interference between GOngri HEP & Khuitam HEP, GoAP also decided and requested to Secretary (Land Management) & D.C. Bomdila, West Kameng District vide letter dated August 21, 2008 that “Till the time the issue is resolved, you are requested not to take any action on land acquisition with respect to these projects in West Kameng Dist.”.
However, it has been noted that M/s Patel Engineering Limited has submitted the EIA/EMP study report to Arunahcal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board for conducting the public hearing scheduled to be held on 20/08/09 at Rahung, West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh. M/s PEL in its EIA/EMP documents proposed the location of major civil components including power house in the project area of Khuitam HEP of M/s APPL, which is in violation of decision and direction given by GoAP.
It is clear from the above facts that M/s Patel Engineering Limited has kept the State Pollution Control Board of Arunachal Pradesh in dark about the said interference issue and is going ahead with public hearing of Gongri HEP, which is actually falling in the project area of Khuitam HEP and is totally illegal. M/s APPL have served a legal notice to M/s PEL dated 13/08/2009 and all concerned government authorities, with a request to put on hold any activity pertaining to development of Gongri HEP till the time matter of said interference is resolved. Legal notice has been received by the government authorities and action in this regard is awaited.
AAPSU meet CEC on discrepancies in list
ITANAGAR, Aug 18: All Arunachal Pradesh Students ‘union (AAPSU) today met the Chief Election Commissioner and his team at Banquet Hall to apprise him of discrepancies in implementing some of the election rules in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. They submitted a memorandum calling for putting an end to dual entry of names in the electoral list of not only native voters but also of those who have come from outside.
“The notification for deletion of person having double entry in voters list in the state has been successfully compiled and completed by the concern competent authorities as per the EC. However it has been observed that the rules are only applicable and enforced to the indigenous electoral voters of the state and have been grossly overlooked and neglected in case of other categories of voters who have enrolled themselves in their native states as well. AAPSU said that it was a disparity towards the tribal populace of the state and preferential attitudes to the voters coming from other states.
The union requested CEC to look into the “inadequacy and the conflicting act” before the ensuing Assembly election in the state.
ITANAGAR, Aug 18: Hage D Appa, the lead actor of the Arunachalee indigenous film “Sonam” is now busy in shooting for a Hindi film “Shivam” being directed by Anshuman Barua, who hails from Assam and partly settled in Mumbai.
Barua has recognized the acting talent and pleasant personality of Appa and offered him the role in the Hindi film after he observed his acting in the film “Sonam”. Appa is the first Aruanchalee film actor to enter Bollywood and is performing a role of police officer to solve a mysterious murder case in the film ‘Shivam’. Featuring three main actor Mohit Chouhan, ( who acted in “Chakde India”, Doom 2 etc) Pankaj Badra and Arunsikha Dey, the shooting of the film has been taking place at Guwahati, Shilong and Mumbai and is likely to be released in the last part of this year at Mumbai.
“Soman” has received President Award as first Arunachalee dialect celluloid film which was directed by Ahsan Muzid.
The acting talent of Appa was first recognized by Taro Chatung (the First Film maker of AP) and offered him the role in his action film called “Frontier Students”, which was released in 1997. Since than Appa restlessly acted in more than 28 telefilms, video films and celluloid films. Simultenously Appa has also directed many telefim, video film, video album and documentaries.

ITANAGAR, Aug 18: The Panchayat and Public leaders of Upper Balijan and Tarasso Zilla Parishad Segment in a meeting has unanimously decided to boycott the inauguration programme in Sangdupota on August 20 and Tarasso Circle on August 22 by Local MLA Ngurang Pinch said a release from ZPM Upper Balijan Nabam Sukia and ZPM Taraso Nabam Ekha along with ASM, GPMs.

It is unfair to compare diseases but when cynical bug hits one, it is difficult to think straight.

ATSU serves ultimatum of 5 days
ITANAGAR Aug 18: Arunachal Tribal Students’ Union (ATSU) served a five days ultimatum to the state government to drop Forest & Environment minister Newlai Tingkhatra and Health and Family Welfare minister C C Singpho from the council of ministers.
The union further demanded that a CBI enquiry done for their alleged undertaking to some extremist organization with affirmation to work in the interest of Nagas.

Karlo is survived by his wife nine children.
Nyoi Welfare Association and Donyi Polo Welfare Society, Likabali condole the sudden demise its founder president and the Patron Tamar Karlo and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extended its condolence to the bereaved family members.
He is survived by wife, seven sons and two daughters.
Karlo served as the councilor 1st Batch of the Agency Council of the then NEFA, and served as vice president of undivided Siang district for three consecutive terms. With a view to creating awareness and discussing the support available under various promotional schemes, DGM, NABARD had a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Gamli Padu, Tawang on Aug11 and held detailed discussions for financial inclusion, issue of Kisan Credit Cards, expansion of SHG bank linkage programme, farmers’ clubs in every block / branch, engaging banking facilitators / banking correspondents, tribal development fund, training programmes under REDP / SDP, cluster development, capacity building of govt staff / NGOs for expansion of microfinance, revitalization / revival of LAMPS, rural tourism, etc. DC has advised concerned Departments to offer their comments and suggestions to seek the help of NABARD in various sectors / schemes. A detailed action plan in this regard is expected to be worked out shortly.
Liromoba remains cut off
ITANAGAR: Liromoba EAC headquarters in West Siang district remains cut off from the rest of the world due to landslide triggered by the heavy downpour on Aug 12 last.
Despite all possible effort, the damaged portion of 22 km long road in between Tai and Liromoba could not be restored causing untold suffering to the Govt staff and general public, claimed Liromoba Circle Welfare Association in a release. The people are facing food shortage and exorbitant rate of essential commodities,, the association said and appealed to the Govt to take immediate step for early restoration of the road link.
NCP regrets
ITANAGAR: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Arunachal Pradesh has expressed its regret over the press statement on ‘Boli’ which was published in local dailies recently.
It is actually money rotation to help each others’ problem. Lots of family problems like medical treatment, education of children have been solved after introduction of this money rotation system, the NCP said.
Pasighat gears up for Solung
PASIGHAT: Minister of State for Water Resource Development Vincent Pala is expected to be the Chief Guest during the ensuing Solung Festival Celebration at Pasighat. This was informed by the MP Ninong Ering at a meeting of Central Solung Festival Committee, Pasighat.

Utilise central jail
Madam,
The Central Jail which was inaugurated in 2005 remains dormant till date which raises a question on Govt’s authoritativeness on implementation of important projects. What is the reason behind delay of it becoming a full fledged working jail? Ever since its inception, the centrally funded jail remains in a declining condition.
Despite more than 30 inmates from Arunachal in Lakhimpur jail, the central jail in Jully village, Itanagar remains without single prisoner. The Central jail has no prisoner yet because there is no proper water supply system. Why the trend of starting a project and leaving it completed just in the papers is gaining ground? If we do not control our hunger we will one day ourselves be devourd by the repercussions of our own madness.
